Root Canal

When the tissue inside a tooth becomes inflamed or infected as a result of decay, cracks, chips, or trauma, a root canal treatment may be needed.

Sensitivity to cold/hot, dull ache in the jaw, tooth ache, or sharp pain when biting down or applying pressure are some common root canal pain symptoms.

The myth of root canal treatment being a painful dental procedure is no longer true. Thanks to modern technology and anesthesia, this procedure can be performed painlessly. In fact, having root canal treatment feels no different than having a simple routine dental filling.

Root canal procedures can prevent the need for tooth extraction by removing the infection from the tooth. Dr. Taimish adamantly believes in preserving your natural tooth structure whenever possible, while focusing on patient comfort.

By preserving your natural tooth with a root canal treatment, you are able retain your natural smile, prevent other teeth from shifting out of alignment, enjoy the foods you love, and avoid future costly dental work.

Root canal procedures are simple and a frequently performed procedure at Norton Dental Ancaster. Dr. Taimish understands that root canal pain can cause severe discomfort and routinely accepts walk-in and emergency root canal patients, to help relieve pain as quickly as possible. The entire root canal treatment can be completed in just one or two dental appointments.

Complications with root canals are rare. Teeth that have undergone a root canal procedure can last as long as natural teeth, with the help of regular oral hygiene.

Our dentist will begin your root canal procedure by using local anesthesia to effectively numb the area being treated. When the area is completely numb, a rubber dam will be used to isolate and prep the tooth for the root canal.

He will then create a tiny opening in the tooth in order to clean out any injured or infected pulp. Once the tooth is disinfected,he will then fill and seal the root canal. To prevent potential fractures or cracks, a dental crown will then be placed on the tooth. Patients may feel minor soreness in the gums caused by the rubber dam once the anesthesia wears off, particularly when chewing on the treated tooth.

You may return to your normal activities immediately following the procedure. Dr. Taimish may recommend chewing on the opposite side in order to allow the tooth to rest, this minor discomfort will subside in a day or two.

As with all dental restorations, a root canal  treatment cannot prevent future decay from forming. In order to prevent further damage to the tooth, consistent brushing and flossing is essential.

Root canal cost is determined by the tooth that is being treated. Incisors typically have one root canal, whereas molars generally have 3 or 4. To schedule your root canal with Dr. Taimish call (905) 648-6116 today.
